Hello from Luverne, Alabama.  So where is Luverne and what's Juliehill?  Luverne is located about 50 miles south of Montgomery (the capitol) on the famed Highway 331 route to sunny Florida.  To answer the second part of the question, Julie was an elderly widow who lived on a small hill on my father-in-law's property during the 1940's.  After marrying into the family, I learned the hill was referred to as the "Julie Hill" in remembrance of her.  Since we now live on that hill we wanted to continue the tradition thus we named our cattery JulieHill.

At JulieHill we raise Maine Coon cats or should I say they raise us.  Our Maine Coons are members of the family.  So when asked, "How many children do you have?"  I reply, "One son, Andrew, and four Maine Coons:  Adam, Evie, Priss, and Aine."  We are a small cattery but put great emphasis on the quality of the lives of our Maine Coons.

JulieHill is a registered cattery with The International Cat Association (TICA) as well as The Cat Fanciers’ Association (CFA).  We actively show our cats in the TICA’s Southeast Region and sometimes venture out to other TICA regions as well.  Our breeding male has been a Regional Winner in TICA’s Southeast Region for 2001-2002 and 2002-2003 show years so please visit our show page to view our show cats past and present.

Our cats and kittens have an immunization routine which includes vaccinations for Feline Rhinotracheitis-Calici-Panleukopenia-Chlamydia Psittaci.  We neither recommend nor encourage the use of the FeLV or FIP vaccine.  Neither vaccine is necessary for indoor-only cats nor has the FIP vaccine been proven effective enough to warrant its usage.  However, we do guarantee any cat or kitten from our cattery is negative for FeLV and Feline Immunodeficiency Virus (FIV).

Kittens from Juliehill Maine Coons are worked with at an earlier age to foster along socialization skills necessary for them once they leave us.  Each is well trained to use a scratching post and have good litter box manners.  Depending upon the individual development of the kitten, the average age of leaving home is 12 weeks.

Our breeding cats will begin an ongoing yearly testing for Hypertrophic Cardiomyopathy (HCM) in August of 2003 by a board-certified feline cardiologist associated with the University of Georgia Veterinary School.

Disclaimer: Screening for HCM is currently the recommended method to aid in reducing the incidence of this genetic condition in our cats. Breeders can not guarantee that their cats will not have this condition. However, JulieHill can guarantee that we are dedicated to screening our breeding stock in a continued effort to produce healthy and sound Maine Coons to the best of our ability.
